Pearl Harbor Memes

These were created as part of the same project as the last set of pieces, for Pearl Harbor Day this time. It was important to me to use actual photos from that day in the memes. Since they are all in black and white, this sets a somber tone for the photos. I chose photos that were interesting, varied from one another, and also worked well as a set in my composition. The most important thing for viewers to see was “Pearl Harbor” since that is the event we are remembering. But the call to action after remembering is that the American Military is an ongoing asset and defense of our country. Supporting them will prevent events like this occurring in the future. Supporting the military is also a large part of what First Liberty Institute does.
The most difficult part of this project was balancing the different gray tones and making the text readable once I had researched to find my source photos. I used Photoshop to partially mask parts of images, add drop shadows, overlay the images with a gradient on various blend modes, etc. Thankfully, the smoky images made it easy to do this and it all blend well.
These pieces were created using Photoshop in the RGB color space.
This was not created using a team, only myself, though I did receive direction and feedback from my supervisor.
This is a culturally sensitive piece. With Pearl Harbor, it is possible to make the issue about the Japanese attacking, but I did not want to focus on the Japanese specifically. This makes war at attacks look bad, not the specific country that does the attacking.
